I wasn't a big fan of American Beauty, except for a few scenes, but recently discovered the script, and found it to be an excellent example of a good screenplay:

TRUE BELIEVER by Wesley Strick was one of the first scripts I read, and it (along with Shane Black's LONG KISS GOODNIGHT) opened my eyes. I stopped listening to all the other newbies who said things like, "You can't do THAT...."
