    Re: Wilder's best?

I think if I had a third of Wilder's talent I'd be a lot happier with my writing.

and I'd go with Jake's list, but I'd bump Stalag 17 higher up on the list.

I saw "Ninotchka" yet again the other night. Beautifully-written, vintage Wilder (great Garbo, too), and you can see how Lubitsch influenced Billy. Wilder had a little sign in his office that read: "What would Lubitsch do?"

He said looking at it when he and his partner were stuck gave him the inspiration he needed.

Anyone seen A Foreign Affair? Crowe thought it one of Wilder's best. Wilder thought it his most personal film.

I'm sadly behind on my Wilder, but I can say that I really loved The Lost Weekend.

Sunset Boulevard didn't excite me. I appreciate the film but it's not something I would ever watch for fun.

I'm waiting for the new Double Indemnity dvd to see that, and I'll probably pick up Some Like It Hot at the same time.

I have Stalag 17 on dvd but never got around to seeing it yet.

Waiting for a new dvd of The Apartment, and I missed Sabrina when it was on TCM a month or so ago. Oh well.

I just don't enjoy watching Sunset Blvd. It's like 9 innings of shutout baseball to me.

You're probably a fan of the DH too.

                  DH?

I really don't watch baseball if that's what it's about. I just thought it was a cool analogy.
