  • The Island

Well, where to start with this. It coulnd't really decide what it wanted to be could it? Did it want to be a meditative piece on the nature of humanity, or did it want to be Too Fast Too Furious 2019? I felt like i was watching two different films badly edited together. Films that blend contemplative sci-fi and action well need to have intelligence and this just didn't. It wasn't astute enough to be Logans Run or Soylent Green and it doesn't have the all round panache to compete with the likes of Minority Report. In Ewan and Scarlett i can't recall too more miscast people in recent memory. Could have been something, too bad Michael Bay's idea of layering substance translates to "more helicoptors!"

I'm not sure what it wanted to be either. Although a decent movie would have been a good start.
Can't sell a script, win script comps, or maintain a screenwriting career? Just what the hell are you gonna do to make ends meet, you failure, you? Two words for you: script doctor.

It was a Philp K. Dick - type premise as interpreted by Michael Bay.

I thought it wasn't too bad, considering the above. The only real problem I had with it was building a movie around a protagonist who was basically a clueless idiot.

edit: MINOR SPOILERS....sorry, I hate it when people don't say that.

A bunch of weird logical things. Like, for an environment promoting well-being, mild temperment, etc.. why the combat room? Why are they so well trained in fighting?

I wouldn't have noticed this had I not picked up a $7 DVD of Logan's Run recently, but... anyone else notice the similarities? Very strange.

edit: Oops missed the OP's original mention of LR. There you go.

It was a video game, dude. Didn't you notice the shameless push for XBOX in the background?

            I really hated this movie.

I didn't hate it but didn't think it was all that.
Of course, I kinda stayed for one particular reason.

Yes, I realize that. But it's like letting your kids play Grand Theft Auto... in virtual reality.

Can someone enlighten me on why there were clones to start with? I'm wondering if it's anything like an idea I once had. I didn't want to bother seeing this Michael Bay "thing", regardless of how much I lust to Scarlet.

***SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER*** (hahaha, like anyone gives a sh1t)

Sean Bean ran a company where rich people paid to have themselves cloned so they could replace their own organd and live longer.

I believe you are missing out on that part.

Strangely it was better as a low budget 70's movie named "Parts: the Clonus Horror"

It's beyond stupid at times. But I loved it and bought it and have watched it several times. Just good fun if you asked me.
