  • Great REALISTIC Family Films

Hey, gang. I have some meetings coming up and I've been instructed to bring some concepts for some PG material.

I'm trying to think up REALISTIC family films with a great hook. See, when I think family films, I'm thinking stuff like E.T., but again, I'm shooting for a more "real world" feel. No aliens or monsters.

To me, THE GOONIES jumps out as one. Yeah, I suppose it's not too terribly realistic, but it avoids the aliens and monsters and fantasy world cliches.

Help me out. What do you think are the best - again, REALISTIC - family films of all time. Importantly, what are some that had great roles for kids and adults?

    Thanks, guys.

BIG is one of my favorite family films, but it's a fantasy. BLACK STALLION is another kind of family film and one of my favorites. SEARCHING BOBBY FISCHER is a very realistic family film (based on a true story), and in my opinion one of the best of its kind.

                    Thanks, guys!

And hey, Pullback, Paper Moon (or at least part of it) was filmed about 10 minutes from my house! My mother-in-law is the head of house keeping at our local Ramada Inn, where the cast and crew stayed during filming. Though she didn't work there when the movie was being filmed, she's heard the many stories about young Tatum's adventures in the hotel, which apparently often involved throwing her cat off the balcony and down to the first floor lobby!
