The fact is that there were never any direct talks between Stallone and UA. The studio never tried to buy the “Rocky” script from him, and there was never round after round of bidding to try and make him give up his dream of being the star. “That’s all bull. It was never true,” said Mike Medavoy, former chairman of TriStar Pictures and UA production chief when “Rocky” was made.
Two words: journalist's agenda.
Why would the 'secret' have gone on this long if it were a total fabrication?sigpic

Re: Rocky legend cooked up by studio...
Judging on the creatively bereft career choices he mader after Rocky's success, why is this shocking news to everybody?
It isn't like it's one person saying the Emperor Wears No Clothes. It's many. So is this some huge conspiracy against Stallone to....to what?
Besides Rocky, everything this guy has ever done has been pathetic. The fact is Stallone built a career on saying he's a working class Philly guy from the streets when in reality he's a drama school boy who attended Swiss boarding schools. Nothing wrong with that but why perpertrate after all these years. They money's already in the bank for Christ's sake.
And I liked the original Rocky by the way."I hate to break it to you but there is no big lie. There is no system. The universe is indifferent.- - Don Draper

I'm utterly shocked, because this is the first and only time a studio publicity department made up a story for the public!
