  • Favorite Original Screenplay Win at the Oscars

Out of all the countless movies to be nominated and win at the Academy Awards for the category of Original Screenplay, which film is your favorite? "American Beauty" has a more then good chance of getting my nod here as well as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".

I have to go with Good Will Hunting.

Both 2000's for me and a toss up between Eternal Sunshine and Almost Famous.

Though Almost Famous probably nudges towards the win a little bit more.

I like all the choices so far. First movie that popped into my mind was Eternal Sunshine, but now that you mention Almost Famous, that's a tough call for me, too.

Split vote between The Apartment, Network and Chinatown.

I am just putting a future-vote in for SLANTED AND ENCHANTED - it's in production now I believe. By Ben Queen. I loved it so much I wrote him a fan letter and we email each other sometimes. I told Ben he's going to be up for an Academy Award in 2008. Talk about looking ahead!

            In the past: American Beauty.

Those three, plus HANNAH AND HER SISTERS and BUTCH CASSIDY.

Good Will Hunting, probably. If not, then American Beauty.

It's a strange category. They either award something that really deserves it (Witness), or they do the opposite (Lost in Translation).

Did Lost in Translation even ever have a completed script?

Yeah, and it was about 75 pages.

Finally the movie all us Pavement fans have been waiting for. Zurich is Stained, indeed.

                          Eternal Sunshine is a no-brainer.

It may be a strange category in the way they have chosen films to award but it certainly is the best category for those who prefer original stories versus adaptations.
