Folks do it all the time on this very board (see One on One).

Is it not cool to like Good Will Hunting?

      I liked it.

Yeah, but the difference is Hunting actually knew what he was talking about, rather than just trying to sound like he knew what he was talking about.

          Re: Your Favorite Verbal Showdowns

I've been on a Peter Weir kick lately, so the first that springs to mind is - and don't cringe - the standing on desks, "O Captain, my captain" scene from Dead Poets Society. The same line over and over, but each kid stands on his desk to salute Keating (Robin Williams)... Powerful stuff, particularly as I'd spent my secondary years in an equally oppressive secondary girls college which had more rules than ideas, and was determined to clip our wings - and the sooner the better.

Not to mention Will didn't have access to Google between posts.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Conan and Subotai's theological discussion.

this was back in the day (1997?), so Will Goldman probably used Alta Vista.

See? I knew it. Goldman DID write GWH!

                      That's how rumors get started.

Censorship reflects a society's lack of confidence in itself.
It is a hallmark of an authoritarian regime.

It's funny how Goldman himself said he didn't write a word of it and people still say he did.

Same as people saying Roger Avary was robbed of a credit on Reservoir Dogs, even though he said on his own site that he had nothing to do with it and imdb is wrong.
