    Re: Torture Porn is Dead

The thing that has been propping Saw up is the Halloween week release dates. Lionsgate will cling to this crap longer than anyone. They need this genre, 5 of their top ten all time grosses are torture porn films.
Frosties are just Cornflakes for people who can't face reality.

It's not done until it has had its satire...

... a good one. Not some halfassed lark from the Scary Movie folks.

A lot that may be due to stolen or leaked screeners and workprints?

Everyone was pretty certain Hostel 2 would have cleaned out the Box Office, but that performed quite abysmally - and Eli Roth blames that soley on internet piracy.

Plus the day Captivity was released, a copy was posted on a Newgroup board.

                Re: Torture Porn is Dead

Over at Bloody-Disgusting, Mr. Disgusting himself has stated that the whole torture-porn sub-genre notion is not valid in that there have been very few films that can clearly fit the mold and says that movies such as "The Hills Have Eyes" remake, "The Hills Have Eyes 2", "Turistas" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" do not count.

I beg to differ, needless to say.
