Warner Independent Pictures has set Kurt Sutter, who is executive producer on FX's "The Shield", to write and make his feature directorial debut on "Awaken the Dragon", a noir-style remake of the 1973 martial arts film "Enter the Dragon" which starred Bruce Lee. This new and contemporized version centers around "a lone FBI agent who pursues a rogue Shaolin monk into the bloody world of underground martial arts fight clubs." Kurt has stated what he's looking to do with the project. "I'm a huge noir fan, and this plot lends itself to the film I want to make. I wanted to set it in these underground fight clubs where the action is really raw and expose the brutality of Shaolin kung fu. This will be more "Raging Bull" than "Crouching Tiger" in its viciousness."
The project will look for a relatively unknown fight star for the role of the monk and cast a well-known American actor as the role of the FBI agent.
