  • Intense Kidnap Scenes

    Hey everyone,

I'm at a loss for references for a scene involving a kidnapping.

I know I've seen it several times where people are driving in their car when suddenly a car in front of them stops short. Maybe another car pulls behind them so they cannot reverse, and then maybe a third car or van pulls up to the side where the "kidnappers" jump out and do whatever.

Can you guys list any scenes in films that this reminds you of?

The only one that even comes to mind right now is Training Day.

    Please help.

    Thanks
    S

Use your imagination. Anyone can get kidnapped anywhere: atm machine, car wash, parking garage... and those are the true stories you hear about on the news.

Charlie's right, there's a ton of stuiff everyday on the News - especially on cable and on the internet.

Just Google "kidnapping" and see what pops up.

Depending on who you want kidnapped, they could be taken right from their home if a door's unlocked, inside their car, etc.

seems like that happened in Heat
Usual Suspects did the car block thing (no actual kidnapping)
          maybe Man on Fire?

even NUMB3RS this past Friday used the vehicle-locked-in device
to allow some prisoners to escape.

What does your kidnappee do routinely that is predictable to the kidnappers? Starbucks at 8:15? Walk the dog? etc.

                  Re: Intense Kidnap Scenes

I just wrote a kidnap scene with the leads as the snatchers - and they can't leave a trace of evidence for the police to find... and the target has 5 armed bodyguards that can't be left behind either.

The fun came from trying to figure out how the heck they would do this. I came up with 2 different methods - both cool... but one had more action than the other.

Put on the MISSION IMPOSSIBLE (the TV series) thinking cap.

I was thinking of the kidnap in In The Bedroom today

Kidnapping can be either eloquent and smooth, or quick and brutal.

The thing to remember is a kidnapping is an ambush. The kidnappers have planned it out before hand -- Unless it is a spur of the moment kind of thing where they need a hostage ASAP.

They know the route. They know the subject's daily routine. They anticipate resistance, or response if the target is high profile (body guards; police). They know the kill zone and they know the escape routes. It's when things go wrong they didn't plan for where the fun starts.

"The Kingdom" has a brutal, but effective (and exciting) kidnap/ambush scene as far as recent movies are concerned.
                      Positive outcomes. Only.

Although I understand the reason behind many of the comments such as "use your imagination" I want to be clear... (something I should've done on the first post)

I am only looking for REFERENCES of how this has gone down in films.
And not because I'm trying to mimic anything.
                          It's just a research exercise.

I'm not actually writing a kidnapping scene.

But I do appreciate the help.
                          Thanks, guys.
