It wasn't perfect but I was far from bored wathcing it. I thought Close, while not my idea of a bombshell, was brilliant.

Play Misty For Me is gooooood stuff. I wasn't a huge fan of Fatal Attraction.

I also agree with Fist Full of Dollars and The Magnificent Seven.

I thought Last Man Standing was a solid rip off of a rip off of a rip off (Even Kurosawa's Yojimbo was a rip off of Hammett's book Red Harvest).

I may catch some flack for this, but Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was by far the best of the series (not saying much), and was really entertaining. I still watch it every once and again. This was mostly due to the hand of Justin Lin, and the fact that it ripped off Initial-D almost beat for beat.

I liked the first Fast and Furious but thought it fell a little too close to Point Break.
The end is too damn nigh.

It could be argued that Romero's Night of the Living Dead was a rip-off of the 1964 Italian flick Last Man on Earth, the first adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. Sure, Romero cites the book as being his inspiration... but watch the earlier flick and you'll note more similarities there than with the original source.

Which works, since when Dawn of the Dead hit big, it was the Italians that jumped all over the zombie bandwagon.

Point Fast and Break Furious -- a mash-up I'd like to see.

You know, I never noticed that. I'm a big Romero fan, too.

                  Good insight. Thanks.

I hear Pirahna (sp) a ripoff of JAWS is a good film. I dunno.

Yep, it's better than you'd expect... but then it was written by indie fave John Sayles and directed by Joe Dante, back when they were young'uns in the Roger Corman factory.

For more early Sayles from when he was trying to pay bills and not an auteur yet, check out The Howling (also Dante) and Alligator (directed by the underrated Lewis Teague).

But he also wrote Battle Beyond the Stars... which (in addition to being one of the first Star Wars rip-offs) was a full-on rip-off of The Magnificent Seven, in turn a rip-off of The Seven Samurai.

And, what was the inspiration, (or ripped off by Lucas), for STAR WARS?
