2012 is directed and co-written by epic German filmmaker Roland Emmerich, of films like Stargate, Independence Day, Godzilla, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow, and 10,000 B.C. previosuly. It was also co-written by Harald Kloser, of The Thirteenth Floor, The Day After Tomorrow, Alien vs Predator, and 10,000 B.C. as well. 2012 slams into theaters everywhere on July 10th, 2009 next summer!

I enjoy all his films on a B grade pulp level. I didn't think 10,000BC was any worse than any of his other films. I watched it as a fantasy film and not a history lesson.

Interesting marketing ploy with the "google 2012" thing.

The History Channel has shows on the end of the world, and according to them 2012 is often found in ancient texts as the end of days. So, I'm sure a google search for 2012 will bring up all kinds of doom forecasts.

Of course, several dates have been given as the end of the world that came and went, but what really scares me is when a TV channel devoted entirely to "History" begins airing shows about the future...

That must be a sign.

You know, it's Roland Emmerich. And I read the script and it was nothing groundbreaking, complete with wafer-thin characters, but I got a thing for end of the world movies. Especially ones where a character gets to do an OTT monologue with soaring epic music playing and a tear in my eye.

For those reasons alone, I'll watch this.

Emmerich has always been a guilty pleasure of mine. Although I must admit, 10,000 BC was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Although Emmerich has a track record of teasers that are much, much better than what eventually hits the screens (Godzilla, for example)

I watched the trailer and thought to myself "Why make a film almost identical to The Day After Tomorrow?", then I found out Emmerdick directed that too, AND 10,000BC. Jeez, I'd be embarrassed to have any involvement in those films.

Nothing like an inspiring and uplifting film about how we're all going to die in four years...Will definitely take the kids to see this one!

what's the basic plot? Sorta sounds like Heroes with no super-heroes
