    Tony Jaa is simply incredible.

Ong Bak and The Protector have some of the best action I have ever seen.

      Looking forward to this.

I've seen this movie... I'd give it a pass with 4/10. The first film is much better 5.5/10 range. I recommend Chocolate over both.

What are you basing your rating on? I look at Tony Jaa movies like martial arts porn. The acting is pretty awful, you're lucky to get a plot ("Where's my elephant?!?", for example), but you get what you're looking for (incredible action, incredible martial arts, incredible stunts) and then some.

If you only give Ong Bak a 5.5 out of 10, you're clearly expecting more from these movies than they plan to give you.

So I should go easy on a movie because it doesn't intend to be very good? And end up giving it the same score as the Godfather because of it's sick Martial arts moves?

You can watch a Martial Arts tournament and Jackass back to back if all you want is mindless snap kicks and hurt. Ong Bak cant except being a movie and that's how I will rate it regardless of how much I enjoy ass kicking.

I enjoy House of the Dead but that wont stop be from giving a technically ****ty film a 1/10.

It's more like giving "The Godfather" 5.5 because it's not as funny as "The Jerk." Apples and Oranges.

Re: Ong Bak 2 - A martial arts' masterpiece of mayhemic graceful violence

And that is where we differ, which was my point.

Yes, I would give Ong Bak the same score as The Godfather. In fact, I did on Netflix. They both got 5 stars.

The Protector was, in relation to acting and story, one of the worst movies I have seen in years. However, the action and fight sequences were so incredible, I watch it on a regular basis. And you know what? I love every cheezy, poorly acted moment of it.

                WHERE IS MY ELEPHANT?!!?!?!?!?!??

                Love it.

It's the same reason why Shaw Bros. and B-Horror have such a strong fanbase. People (like me) recognize them for what they are and judge them accordingly. They are in a totally different category than Oscar fodder.

And you know what? I'll watch a good Shaw Bros. or Tony Jaa movie again before I'd watch a drama like The Godfather or Saving Private Ryan again. Hell, I watch the 80s/90s Bruce Willis action vehicles far more often than I watch Pulp Fiction, American Psycho or Casablanca (three of my favorite films of all time). I'm not always in the mood to appreciate cinema. Sometimes I want to be fvcking entertained. Tony Jaa's action/stunt sequences get the job done.

Of course, I write primarily action/thriller scripts, so...

My point is (and was) that clearly Tony Jaa's stuff isn't up your alley. You may appreciate the action and martial arts, but clearly it's not your genre. That's cool. Everyone has their own tastes and I was never calling yours into question. I was simply pointing out that your opinion is not shared by everyone. If everyone expected great story and acting from everything dedicated to celluloid, the horror and martial arts genres wouldn't exist (nor would the porn industry, which IMO would be a good thing...). In other words, some of us recognize movies like Ong Bak are different experiences entirely from films like Some Like it Hot. You prefer to judge all cinema as equal. That's cool. More power to you.

I was going to make the same basic statement, but realized I was already rambling. lol.

It's apples and Oranges when it comes down to your enjoyment of a film. It is not apples and oranges on a "Cinema" technical/academic level!

Giving a movie like Ong Bak 5/5 is just a measure of your personal enjoyment of the film and not the films artistic qualities.

I get where you are coming from Jonny. I just separate my enjoyment of film compared to the technical achievements and I don't seclude genres. Example: Batman & Robin is a 10/10 for me personally but a 3/10 in all seriousness.
