  • Best and Worst Horror Sequels

My other thread is going well (glad to see many passionate horror fans out there) so I thought I'd start another one on another topic close to my heart.

BEST -- Halloween 2 (1981) is my favorite sequel. I love that it picks up exactly where it left off and the hospital setting is creepy perfect. And the ending is awesome. Mr. Sandman...

Return of the Living Dead -- Not sure if this counts as a direct sequel, but it's my favorite Zombie movie. Ever.

WORST -- Nightmare on Elm Street 2 -- I don't think any sequel was so far off from the previous entry. I think I've only seen this movie three times and the others many times over. Part one was so amazing, that you knew the sequel would go down, but this was ****. Part 3 saved the franchise.

Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers -- It's just horrible. But it does have Paul Rudd.

    Best:

The original DAWN OF THE DEAD (which I liked better than NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD)

    Worst:

THE EXORCIST 2 (though, it is pretty damned hilarious)

Aren't you forgetting "It's four days to Halloween, Halloween, Halloween! It's four days to Halloween! Sil-ver Shamrock!"? (Warning, that song will get stuck in your head if you click on the link.) Or doesn't that count as a real Halloween sequel?

            Best:

Day of the Dead - Sure, the acting's horrible, but I love the social commentary. Also, the special effects still amaze me.

            Army of Darkness
            Wes Craven's New Nightmare

            Can I count Zombi 2?

            Worst:
Halloween 3: Season of the Witch

I think Halloween 3 is a solid horror movie. It was supposed to start an anthology as many of you probably know, so every movie would be a new horror movie based on Halloween.

Tom Atkins rules and I love that song!

Halloween III is the only one of the franchise that I actually enjoyed. Yeah, I'm a blasphemer... never really warmed to even the first one. But then, I never liked serial killer/stalk-n-slash films to begin with. And they always pick the wrong chick to be the final girl.

Maybe if PJ Soles was the final girl instead of Jamie Lee Curtis, I might have like Halloween a li'l better.

Add me to the list of people who like Halloween 3. If it had nothing to do with the Halloween series I think it would be a cult classic. As it stands, and especially in light of what came after it, I wish they really had turned the series into a Halloween anthology franchise with different Halloween themed stories set in the same basic universe.

I HATE Halloween 2. It completely removed the mystery element that made the original so fantastic. The tacked-on connection between Laurie and Michael is stupid beyond words.

Although technically not a sequel - I had to throw it in there. It was terrible. Anything that mixes Lycans with Australian wildlife, and tries to take itself seriously, is bound to fail epically.

It's definitely up there. Best gore effects you will ever see, and a ton of quotable lines.
