I was sold on him from Born on the Fourth of July, though I wasn't sure if that was more of Oliver Stone as opposed to Cruise. But the man's been consistent, and his work in Rain Man, Collateral, Magnolia, Jerry Maguire, War of the Worlds, and, hell, I'll say it, Vanilla Sky is good stuff.

Agree on all but War of the Worlds. That movie was horrible. But I can add A Few Good Men on that list...and we may even be forgetting more. He's done lots of movies.

Taps. And Color of Money. Those are the ones we're forgetting.

The point about the villain, though...come to think of it, in a LOT of Cruise's movies he plays a dick. He was a dick in Color of Money, Taps, WoW, Eyes Wide Shut, Collateral, Magnolia...so he's definitely got it in him to play some evil bad-ass.

        Re: Better with age.

He was also the Vampire Lestat in Interview with a Vampire, and whenever he was on screen he blew Brad Pitt out of the water.

He was also in the MI flicks where he did a good job.

I thought he was excellent in LAST SAMURAI.

No question, Cruise is quite a talent.

Amen, brother. I'd do things to them that Tony wouldn't do to a farm animal.

                          Re: Better with age.

I have always been a Cruise fan. Always said he's been grossly underated. I have been maligned for this at times.

More proof he's far better than the kudos he received: Tropic Thunder. He stole the film with his slightly extended cameo. I didn't think it was possible but he made Downey's performance - as good as RDJ was -- seem, okay.

The other thing I respect about him -- he's willing to play second banana roles and ensembles.

Not many stars of his level of BO are willing to give screentime to others.

One day they'll give him an Academy Award -- maybe when he's 75.
Advice from writer, Kelly Sue DeConnick. "Try this: if you can replace your female character with a sexy lamp and the story still basically works, maybe you need another draft.-
