  • The Girlfriend Experience -what a snooze fest

I tend to respond well to a lot of indie films, in fact a lot of the stuff I write is in the vein of indie / art house material, but man oh man what a disappointment. I am SOOOOOO sick of the fake documentary angle, enough already !!!!! But apparently people keep peeing in their pants over that kind of stuff.

And those endless, static long shots in darkly lit settings, I thought I was going to go out of my mind with boredom. If you're going to have long shots of people talking and not moving, from so far away that you can't even see them, you sure as hell had better make that conversation interesting.

And for a supposedly sophisticated call girl, oh my lord, that woman had nothing to say. I remember reading an article ages ago about one of the most famous Madames in Paris, Madame Claude, I think, and her escorts had graduate degrees and could hold intelligent conversations with heads of state clients and accompagny them to important social events.

I get that the film was about more than that, but still, BOOOORING.

Luckily I also rented Zombieland tonight

ETA: I wasn't able to watch the film all the way to the end. Hopefully she gets murdered or something.

No. She doesn't get murdered or anything else interesting.

Here's my review from a film fest... and I'll wager my review is more interesting than the film:

Here's the thing I didn't understand about GIRLFRIEND - there was a script? There was a script written by the guy who wrote ROUNDERS? WTF?

PS: Just reread my review, and it doesn't tell the end... and it's not all that good.

Well so how does it end, Bill? I have another indie film to watch before ZOMBIELAND, DOWNLOADING NANCY, and I love love love all the actors in it, and so I am expecting a great viewing experience, and so I really do not think I will get around to watching the end of GIRLFRIEND before I have to return the films tomorrow.

(What I love about an actual video store, for those of us who still frequent them, is that you can at least have animated debates with the employees as you return a crap film.... they have all been so helpful in my great Sci-Fi As Research Madness, and just when I decide to take a break from Sci-Fi, then ... this).

What does that mean? Is it bad? I hardly ever watch horror, the only reason I rented this is because I was told it was more comedy than horror. I am fairly inexperienced in the zombie genre. Plus I think Woody can be pretty damn funny.

Well, I guess I willl report on the other two films after viewing

That was me being a snot. If you don't like horror (or zombie films, or even zomedies), you should have fun.

That was more of me being a snot.

              GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE - MEGA SPOILERS!!!!!

So, you know her boyfriend the trainer guy? Well, he accepts her job screwing other guys. That would make him the perfect boyfriend, because I wouldn't want my GF screwing a bunch of guys.

So that means that she dumps him for... a screenwriter client that we NEVER SEE IN THE MOVIE and when she goes to his hotel where he's supposed to be waiting for her after asking his wife for a divorce (all in phone conversations, we never see the guy) she waits for hours (and we get to see many minutes of her waiting) and then she gets a phone call from the screenwriter and he says he can't leave his wife because he loves her and she ends up alone at the hotel and alone in her life... the end.

Oh, and somewhere in there the boyfriend does his deal and ends up rich. So, she's just screwed.

I think it's *stupid* for her to leave a guy we see onscreen for a guy we don't ever see and don't know... but the film was boring and confusing crap, so I really didn't care.

The guy who wrote ROUNDERS wrote this?

Dude if you're all drained after the boredom the The Girlfriend Experience, you might want to hold fire on watching Downloading Nancy. It's an interesting story and well written, but verrrrry drawn out. I found myself falling asleep during it, even though I was into the story.

Great, something else to look forward to I should have stuck with Star Trek # 9.

Just finished it. Meh. A road movie / surrogate family film with zombies as a backdrop. Its main quality is that it made me forget about THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE.

OK, so I didn't miss out much I'm sure the film is supposed to be making some grand philosophical statement about sex and money and manhood and the sagging economy and sterile relationships in cold clinical environments or WHATEVER, but you can have that message and still be entertainning.

Not to mention that a hooker with no evidence of being able to feel anything strongly would suddenly give up the only anchor in her life for a client she just met. Which, yes, is in tune with the sort of alternate reality of the film, but even in weird films there has got to be some inherent logic that guides a character's motives.

All in all, it was just sort of depressing. Which I also realize is kind of the point, but again, no excuse for making it boring. I can watch a film with nothing but two people talking and it can still be an exhilarating experience.

This was the first movie I've literally turned off before it was over in a very long time.

I'm sure you'd get wittier and more profound meaning in Sasha Grey's pornos than this.
Joan: What does the "T" stand for?
                        Jack: Trustworthy.

Oh, and Rounders was a bag of **** in my opinion. I don't know how much of a difference it makes that poker couldn't interest me in the slightest, but that film was dull, nonsensical and plain gay.
Yes, I'm gettting angry now thing about it.
