    MORE HITS

The guy who said, in essence, that pursuing your creative aspirations is not a waste of time.

    "That's Dame Helen Mirren"

    A KINDA OF A MISS

People complaining that Farrah and Bea weren't part of the Memoriam. They're both TV icons. Memorable in their own way. No one is going to show a clip from a bad Farrah theatrically released movie. She's known for Charlie's Angels and The Burning Bed, a TVM. I was surprised to see MJ being a part of it.
"I ask every producer I meet if they need TV specs they say yeah. They all want a 40 inch display that's 1080p and 120Hz. So, I quit my job at the West Hollywood Best Buy."

Starting off with "I'm glad to see it's about the performance and not the politics," that bugged me for two reasons. First, it's like saying "I had the best performance, thank god you didn't let other considerations rob me of what I was entitled to." And second, she's referring to the controversy over the fact that she refused to do much publicity for the movie because she wouldn't get paid for doing it. So she shortballs everybody else who worked on the movie for selfish reasons, and when pundits cry foul, she's the victim? Right.

Her strong sense of entitlement really put me off.
There are times when Monique can overdo her "thang" but nothing has yet to beat Julia Roberts' Erin Brockovich acceptance speech for sheer
      me-ness.

I tend to agree. Farrah starred in some horrible theatrically released films. They could've used a clip from THE APOSTLE but... oh well.

She will remain in our hearts and minds.

Beginning was pretty bad. They had potential for some magic there in the beginning and should have gotten Billy Chrystal involved somehow. Fell kind of flat.

This show was maybe a weak B, definitely not an A.

And I thought AN EDUCATION should have won best screenplay because of how good it was.

i had to google and check it out... holy crap, it made me want to donkey punch her, or at least the screen. While she's ranting like an idiot some poor schmuck who probably got an award for a documentary he had been working on for the last twelve years of his life got his speech cut down to 4 1/2 seconds.

i've seen bits and pieces of Halle's idiot rant of her giving it up to herself... another good un'.
the English probably just roll their eyes because they always seem a lot more humble in their acceptance speeches.

I'm not talking about other actors. I'm talking about Monique. If other actors behaved similarly, they should be criticized as well. That has no bearing on Monique though. An alleged pattern of misbehavior on the part of others should not excuse one's own misbehavior.

"Entitlement? Bottom line -- she kicked butt in that role. That's a fact."

No, that's an opinion. And when an actress holds that opinion of herself and then states it, ever so subtly, in her acceptance speech, I find that to be bad form.

"ETA: I googled and found that Lionsgate squashed the rumor that Monique demanded money for publicity appearances. Sad when rumors are stated as fact."

I don't recall anyone saying that she "demanded money for public appearances." Nor that she did not do ANY publicity. She has been quoted as saying that she did not partake in a lot of publicity opportunities because she was not being paid. Critics called her out for it, and she played victim.

"ETA: While I'm at it -- I'd like to point out Precious breaks a lot of glass ceilings -- including proving a Black actress doesn't have to be skinny and lightskinned to get us to care about her character."

Fine, but I don't see how that is relevant to what I said.

I'll have to agree with that. That was shameful. But not really surprising.

I liked the way they set up the short form awards, featuring interviews with established filmmakers who got their start with short films. Definitely heightened my interest in those awards.

                                Hits:
                                -B & M backstage in a red snuggie
                                -Tim Robbins joking about Freeman
                                -the costume designer's acceptance speech

                                Misses:
Too many to count. Overall, this show was like amateur hour, but a couple of things bugged me the most:
                                -the lampshade background - wtf?
-Robbing the Honorary Oscar recipients Lauren Bacall, Roger Corman, Gordon Willis of their moment in favor of that ridiculous interpretive dance + Doogie.
                                - Seemed seriously lacking in classic/actual movie stars. I guess the producer's thinking was to get the flavors of the month and the tween heartthrobs to attract the yunguns. I find it ironic, that while viewership was up, it was largely composed of the over 40 undesirables. The young, sexier audience actually declined from last year.
