      Re: Piranha 3-D

If you think that the early eighties were the Golden Age of Horror (boobies and blood), then this should make you one happy camper. Nice balance of practical FX and CGI, a sick sense of humor, a couple of really cool cameos, and Eli Roth shows up to die spectacularly.

The 3D is kinda weak, though (which is too bad... there's some very nice underwater cinematography that gets dulled). But it's worth it for the underwater ballet scene (set to "The Flower Duet"... of course) Yeah, I went all thirteen-again.

Did I see Adam Scott in the previews of this? He needs more substantial roles. He was great in the indie film "The Vicious Kind".

          Re: Piranha 3-D

I just got back from seeing this.

This may sound like a weird comment for a shameless exploitation flick that actually features characters engaged in making online exploitation material, but my enjoyment of the movie was marred by what seemed to me to be a bit of a misogynistic streak.

Almost all of the most fucked up deaths in the movie seemed to be reserved for women, and I don't think seeing the piranhas chewing on a CGI penis was enough to level things out. I'm not somebody who could ever remotely be considered a feminist, but I would have liked a bit more equal opportunity mutilation.

Having said that, I did think the shot of the silicon implants being all that remained of the porn actress was a decent gag.

I guess maybe I should have taken the above advice about seeing it drunk.

ETA: Oh, yeah and as noted above the 3D was pretty weak

I'm trying to understand why I liked this movie so much??

It was cheesy, nasty, stupid, bloody, really bloody... yet I walked out of the theater with a smile on my face.

                Wet weiners....

I'd call this summer film the "Snakes On A Plane" for 2010.
The reported graphic scene of a guy having his crank bit off and the bloody chunk being spit at the audience in digital 3-D is enough to keep me away.

I'd rather get bank credit, than screen credit.

Figured a guy who goes by the name BeefMissle would have - nevermind.

A sequel is already in the works: http://hollywoodinsider.ew.com/2010/...-in-the-works/

It's the feel good movie of the year. Plenty of nudity, gore, suspense, comic relief, and another great Ving Rhame's one-liner to add to his repertoire. Besides, who doesn't want to see annoying and naive spring breakers getting torn apart by prehistoric Piranhas?

I don't want to see them at all.
