  • Oscar's Best And Worst Moments

    BEST

    Aaron's speech

    James Franco (stoner hosting!)

    Steven mentioning the Oscar losers

    Colin's speech

    Kirk Douglas

    No applause during Memoriam

    Halle's ode to Lena Horne

    WORST

    No Haim?

    Justin Timberlake

Anne Hathway (too cute 4 my tastes)

No real surprises (wanted Benning to win)

      Sandra Bullock was my highlight.

Funny + sexy lays me out on the canvas every time.

Re: Oscar's Best And Worst Moments

Was Anne too cute? Perhaps. But it was ten times better watching her be a fluffy dork and deliver clever one liners on rare occasion than watching James Franco half asleep. His performance as host was pathetic. Beyond pathetic. He wasn't even THERE. Giving him props out of some need to praise pot heads "cuz it's so kool" is retarded. He bombed, big time, and I felt sorry for Anne having to carry his arse through that show. At least she showed up and had some spunk, however annoying it might have been. I'd take this chick on uppers over a stoned Franco hosting any day.

Anyway, at the end of the day, Aronofsky and Black Swan were robbed. King's Speech is a good film, but overrated in terms of taking home Best Picture. The Oscars tried WAY to hard to appeal to the young demo to the point where they hired the wrong hosts and effectively just further proved exactly why King's Speech won....stodgy Academy members (and those who produce the show) who are out of touch with the younger audience and current trends and true humor, quality, and entertainment.

Until next year....which, by the way, should be hosted by Robert Downey Jr (and Sandra Bullock or Helen Mirren if they want a pair).

How cool was Tom Hooper's speech though, about his mom? Nice stuff. I also liked Sorkin's speech.

            BEST

            Firth's 'Impromptu dance outbreak' speech

Hooper's 'Listen to your mother' speech

The guy with the 'Fro who won for the Love film

            Aaron Sorkin!

Billy Crystal (not the lines, but the appearance itself)

Kirk tossing the envelope on the floor

Brand and Mirren showing everyone, on behalf of us Brits, how to present an award.

The shoutout to all those lovely culpable bankers out there.

The F-bomb (and I don't mean Firth cutting the cheese)

            Randy's speech.

            WORST

The rest of the presenters (slight titter for Law and Junior)

The extremely selective 45 second countdown

            Every... Single....Skit

The nonsense with Supporting-Actress that was allowed to go on far too long, despite the F-bomb!

How it all felt so hollow as it has for a while.

That Social Network didn't take Best Picture since I have a script with the prodco and a possible upcoming project. In fact, I think I was the only person on this side of the pond not flying a flag for King's Speech.

            Kids........singing.......singing...... kids.

That Nolan and Toy Story didn't get nods where they should have.

It's messed up giving the oscar to the most middle of the road film in the lot. And director too? How can you compare that directing to Black Swan, or Social Network?

Pretty easily when you consider not only the Academy Award, but also the Director's Guild Award. When fellow director's feel that the direction was worthy, there probably was something to it. (and I say all this as someone who thought King's Speech was 'aight, but not as good as Social Network, Inception, or True Grit).

Re: Oscar's Best And Worst Moments

I agree with everything Harbinger said, especially the VERY selective 45 second speech timer. Was it me, or did it seem like they cut Aaron off faster than everyone else?

And the worst was the fact that Fincher didn't win. Split the director/best movie-Fincher and King's Speech. That would've been fair.

Mostly a night of eye rolling at the predictable.

Loved Randy's speech and the fro guy as well.

I saw him two (or was a three years ago) here in LA at the Bookfestival, I think the Academy gave him the benefit of the doubt... after all... he's hard to understand after a stroke!

Re: Oscar's Best And Worst Moments

The big mistake was having the hosts be actors rather than comedians. The second biggest mistake was not giving them anything funny to say.

Skipped out on it first time in a few years soon as I saw Franco and Hatthaway were hosting....just caught highlights instead. GLAD BALE GOT THAT OSCAR FOR HIS ROLE.
