GQ: You mean that you're an artist who is very faithful to the text.

        Hackman:
Well, that's where the clue is to any creative process, to be able to figure out what is already there. Not to try to embellish.

GQ: Yet you always find the details in the character. You once said that you try to find the things that aren't written there.

        Hackman:
Yes, but what's there comes first.
        All Screenwriters hail Mr. Hackman.

That was a GREAT interview. Is it wrong I had a lump in my throat while reading that? The nostalgia. The talk of his mother never seeing him act.

Really honest and candid. Thanks for the link, OP.

Holy shir, I had no idea he's 81 already, and I hadn't realized that he'd retired from acting. Now I'm sad...

Great actor but I must admit...

He did shout a lot of the time when he could have just spoken the lines. You don't need to shout all the time, y'know.

                Re: Gene Hackman GQ Interview

Gene Hackman is my favorite actor, and I am very sad to know that he has officially retired. I suspected that might be the case. Maybe he'll get the itch to come back...

Gene Hackman is one of my favorite actors as well. When I'd heard he'd retired, I wondered why, and hoped it wasn't due to a secret illness. It was - the mental illness of wanting to write. Good interview. I'm quite certain that the right director, with the right part, could coax him back out of retirement. Hope it happens soon!
