Re: Gene Hackman GQ Interview
GQ: You mean that you're an artist who is very faithful to the text.
Hackman: Well, that's where the clue is to any creative process, to be able to figure out what is already there. Not to try to embellish.
GQ: Yet you always find the details in the character. You once said that you try to find the things that aren't written there.
Hackman: Yes, but what's there comes first.
That was a GREAT interview. Is it wrong I had a lump in my throat while reading that? The nostalgia. The talk of his mother never seeing him act.
Really honest and candid. Thanks for the link, OP.

Re: Gene Hackman GQ Interview
Gene Hackman is one of my favorite actors as well. When I'd heard he'd retired, I wondered why, and hoped it wasn't due to a secret illness. It was - the mental illness of wanting to write.Good interview. I'm quite certain that the right director, with the right part, could coax him back out of retirement. Hope it happens soon!
