Re: Movies that wouldn't be made today

    "Duck Soup"

I saw it again recently on TCM and somehow it was even more funny to me than the last time. It's political satire, farce, slapstick, and absurdist. Talk about tonal shifts... Of course it's all set up well from the start, but still. Oh yeh, and it's a musical. It's "Dr. Strangelove" as a musical-comedy. Now, would anyone make that?

Please - tell me how I'm wrong about this. And to be clear, I want to be wrong. I've written a script of this sort (minus the musical). I haven't pitched it, but I'd sure like to know what producer might make a Marxist kinda movie today.

There was a remake of Casablanca in the 80's, I believe, with David Soul as Rick. For TV. Or was it a series?

"It wouldn't be made today" is mostly "I wouldn't make it today." If you're the one with the money, you get to say that.
