  • ParaNorman vs Hotel Transylvania vs Frankenweenie

Which of these three (below) would be your first choice to see?

If you plan to see more than one or if you don't care to see any you can respond with that too. If you want to give reasoning behind said choice(s)that would be much appreciated, also.

I have a halloween genre script (animated/family) and I am just curious which of these may or may not strike a cord with storywise screenwriters and why.

    ParaNorman Trailer: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1623288/

    Hotel Transylvania Trailer: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0837562/

    Frankenweenie Trailer: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1142977/

    Thanks.

More style than story, but choosing ParaNorman because of its Italian Horror Influences...

Also influencing the DNA were the works of the Italian horror masters, such as Dario Argento.

"We looked at some Italian stuff, Mario Bava and Dario Argento, for the color,- Fell said. "We wanted the film to be a color movie. We didn't want to do gothic or black-and-white '50s-type thing, so we were really into the color from those directors, and we looked at early Sam Raimi stuff for some of the kinetic camera work.-

The directors' horror influences also come through in myriad references scattered throughout ParaNorman, from the lighting to props to locations, such as the bar named "the Bargento- or the "Suspiria Blue Drink- vending machines.

      Who Needs 3D...

...to make a great Halloween genre (animated/family) film?

Didn't like SIXTH SENSE; don't think Adam Sandler is funny; and, not into Tim Burton's weirdness?

I did enjoy one of the W&G films, immensely, a few years ago:

Re: ParaNorman vs Hotel Transylvania vs Frankenweenie

I really want to see Hotel Transylvania.

It's the first movie in a long while that I would actually get ready, venture outside, and pay £10 (plus £10 nandos + £5 petrol) to go see at the cinema -- if I could actually get one of my friends to go with me... and it's a kids animation!!...

I also want to get around to watching ParaNorman, that looks good.

Frankenweenie on the other hand doesn't appeal to me, and I usually LOVE Tim Burton movies...

I will see Hotel Transylvania because of Genndy Tartakovsky, maker of my favorite recent cartoon (Samurai Jack).

ParaNorman looks like crap. Almost all of the gags in the tailer are references to other movies. Frankenweenie does not look good to me either.

Excellent movie! I also immensely enjoyed Pirates: Band of Misfits.
Queen Victoria makes a formidable antagonist.

HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA is not good. It took a great concept and distilled it down to it's lowest common denominator: a sitcom.

I think the most I laughed was the bingo scene. Until they felt they needed to spice it up by having the hero show off his mad skills with a Razor Scooter.

I'm not going to say ParaNorman is some masterful work of cinema, but it was enjoyable for me. More importantly though, what these guys have kind of figured out with Coraline and to some extent with the Corpse Bride and A Nightmare Before Christmas is that there's a cool, little niche to fill for the 6 to something like 13 year old crowd. This group is not quite old enough to take on more mature movies, but getting too old for the sappy Disney-esque stuff.

I saw ParaNorman with my 6 year old daughter and seeing it through her eyes, it was just enough of a thrill ride for her. It was funny, scary, touching, a little bit of mystery, and a little bit deep, but all on a smaller scale.

I think of it kind of like those roller coasters for kids that prepare them for what to expect when they get big enough for the real thing. So, in that way, ParaNorman is kind of a special movie.

I dug it. I definitely think Coraline is superior, though. I never felt like Coraline was talking down to me or trying to be a kid's movie. I'd love to see LAIKA eventually do something specifically for an older crowd. The only mature animation we tend to get in the West is raunchy poorly animated cartoons.

I want to see Hotel Transylvania do well if only for Genndy Tartakovsky's sake. SAMURAI JACK was awesome and I pray he gets a chance to do a big screen version of it.

Re: ParaNorman vs Hotel Transylvania vs Frankenweenie

I wouldn't normally see any of these 3 films. But, if I was forced to pick between them then these would be my choices.

                    1st - ParaNorman
The trailer looked creepier than the trailers for the other two.

                    2nd - Frankenweenie
The Burton factor. Not a fanboy of Burton, but I do like some of his live-action films.

                    3rd -Hotel Transylvania
                    Seems way too cute.
