Ha, ha. Too true. I expect that the filmmakers thought that it would be too dull for audiences to see a rigid, disciplined phalanx for the entire battle.

I was thinking about this, with Braveheart being one of my favorite films. But it's hard to determine the exact unit we'd be talking about. His initial, small crew of rebels? His later, enlarged army? All of Scotland? No question that he assembles a ferocious fighting force.

We'd surely have to add one of the Robin Hood crews. But which one? I'd vote for the Robin of Sherwood incarnation (even though it's a small band), as it's a darker take on the legend than most.

Yeah I really just can't seem to get those Knights out of my mind. They're all so hot, I don't even know which one I would pick first in my dreams.

The Riders of Rohan were a pretty cool looking bunch too.

And I'm trying to think of flicks with horse-riding, robe-flowing, turban-wearing, saber-waving warriors, like Tuaregs. Those are some pretty striking visuals as well.

                    Yeah..... bad asses!

J/K, but I took your post to mean a diverse group of warriors drawn together for a common goal. I wasn't thinking of it as a collective in an army sense. To me, the best warrior line-ups are always those with a diverse range of powers/weaponry.

"Braveheart" is a good call as well. It's a smaller "crew" as far as his best guys from what I recall, but Brendan Gleeson was a Gangsta, as was the Irish guy.

I was really talking about the visual impact, the decisions of the art team / costumers in addition to the fact that the characters themselves are bad ass and have awesome fighting techniques.

I was reflecting on the importance of costume / style and its impact on how long a character stays in the viewer's memory. In addition, of course, to the character's demeanor, skills, and more.

E.g.: the fact that Arnold wears a biker jacket and shades in T2 has a huge impact visually. I mean, THAT is Arnold.

Counter example: to me the crew of the Enterprise always looked like a bunch of grown ups running around in their pyjamas. So that would be bad ass space explorers that DON'T make a cool visual statement.

Other posts got me thinking of a couple more that I like visually and are badass.

More badassery than visual, but the villains in Big Trouble in Little China.

More visual than badassery were the bad guys in Lord of the Rings that rode the big mastadon things. The archers were pretty cool, too.
