The big question is... how mad is Quentin Tarantino right now?

Not as mad as Kathryn Bigelow or Ben Affleck should be.
Seven years dungeon --- no trials!

I actually know an Oscar nominee! Mychael Danna, the composer of "Pi's Lullaby" and the rest of the score from Life Of Pi, is the sister of my friend (and soon to be published mystery novelist) Jen Danna. Mychael's worked on several films, this is his first nomination, and the whole family is thrilled.

I'm surprised Dicaprio wasn't nominated. Waltz was great, but Leo was the special one in Django.

Also hoped John Hawkes would be nominated. I thought he was excellent in The Sessions.

Agree on both counts. I knew Waltz would get a nom, but I was really hoping Leo would too. I guess two from the film was too much? (Except it wasn't for "The Help"...) Honestly, I thought Leo deserved it more between the two.

John Hawkes is perennially shafted. I couldn't believe he didn't get a nom last year for "Martha Mary." I actually thought he was the best part of "Winter's Bone."

At least they have their Producer (for Best Picture) nominations to comfort them.

I'd say maybe he should have done a better job, but it's not about doing a good job, is it?

Haven't seen Zero Dark Thirty or D Unchained yet but Affleck definitely deserved a nod for Argo.

Haven't seen any of the BP noms.

Surprised at the snubs for TDKR when it comes to visuals, sound, and editing. Say what you want about it, it's a technical masterwork.

Marion Cotillard should definitely have been there for Rust and Bone

For me John Hawkes is the most egregious snub.

                        Re: 2013 Oscar Nominations

LINCOLN feels like the clear front-runner for Best Picture being that ZDT, ARGO, and LES MIZ don't have directors nominated. Plus, it's the kind of movie that Academy voters love, it's got the most overall nominations, and it's been very popular with the public. I'm sure this will translate into a Spielberg victory as well. And at this point, is there anyone who doesn't think Daniel Day-Lewis is going to win?

Best Actress feels a little more open. Chastain and Lawrence are both strong contenders, but I think Emmanuelle Riva has a really good shot as well. If AMOUR didn't have so many other nominations, I'd say she wouldn't have had as much of a chance, but now... The Academy loves to award older actors (she's the oldest ever Best Actress nominee) and foreign actors, so she's a double threat there. And it's a disease of the week performance too, which also helps. Her chances are very good.

Hathaway is probably a lock for Supporting Actress, and I'd bet even money on Tommy Lee Jones, especially with such a strong LINCOLN showing.

The writing categories seem the most wide open in a lot of ways. This could be where some of the ones that got snubbed elsewhere could get awarded, i.e. ZDT or DJANGO or ARGO. Tougher to call there. If I had to guess right now, I'd probably put money on LINCOLN (Adapted) and ZDT (Original).

Yeah. And Leonardo DiCaprio was totally Afflecked. He deserved a nom.

Wow... okay. That's different. For once-

I haven't seen ANY movie represented at the Oscars.

Oh, I've seen some in visual effects, but other than that. None of 'em.

But I did watch a great interview with Mrs. Field about how everyone said was wrong (and too old.....!) for the Lincoln part (looks nothing like Lincoln) and she fought like hell for it. So-

                              #TEAMSALLYFIELD for Mrs. Lincoln
