    Saving Private Ryan

SPOILER ALERT - you don't even see Ryan until a couple of hours in.

Another Kubrick's movie, Barry Lyndon. It's hypnotic, slow, beautifully shot - a must see.

In addition to The Shining, just about every Stephen King adaptation (Shawshank, Green Mile, Stand By Me, Misery, Christine, Apt Pupil, et al) is a slow burn. Probably because King is such a master of building suspense and dread, and he has the confidence to take his time.

And oddly enough, 'Slow Burn' the movie wasn't like this.

When I think of movies like that I think of 'The Clearing' and 'The Pledge'. Love those two. And pretty much any one of Kim Ki-duk's movies but especially the almost sans dialogue '3-Iron'.

Oh, and the master of slow pace movies, Ingmar Bergman. 'Through a Glass Darkly' or 'Winter Light'.
