  • Why the love?

What movie does everyone else seem to love except you?

Mine is The Wolf of Wall Street - It got nominated and won lots of awards but I HATED it!!! The characters were so slimy, it made me sick and I couldn't wait for it to be over. Still to this day, if I see it's coming on, I always groan and shake my head

off the top of my head, i am not a big fan of MILLION DOLLAR BABY, CASINO, and i have never, ever been able to get all the way through LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. I was disappointed in THE REVENANT. Sometimes a person catches a movie on the wrong day, though. I remember watching RAISING ARIZONA the first time, and I didn't find it very funny. Watched it a second time and it was hilarious. Go figure.

Melancholia. I keep trying with Lars Von Trier but he doesn't click with me.

I watched Black Narcissus recently and while I enjoyed it I didn't think it was amazing. That may have suffered from me watching it late at night though.

          John Wick
Granted I didn't see all of it, but the scenes I did watch consisted of Wick walking into a room and a bunch of armed guys running at him instead of shooting him from cover, each scene ending with Wick easily shooting all of them with fake-looking CGI blood spurts. The villains were uninteresting and implausible, as was the central conceit and Wick's background. Nothing at all in the way of cleverness or originality. If this same move had starred Steven Seagal and got a straight to video release, it would have gotten maybe 5% on Rotten Tomatoes instead it's 80% or whatever it got.

I fear I could face a public backlash for saying it out loud, but I never really get the "genius" of Tarantino, though there are parts of BASTERDS that I must admit I think are rather astounding.

basterds. that early scene with the nazi making chit-chat in the man's kitchen, with the people hiding under the floorboards...so intense. the pressure building with every sip and smile and word spoken, etc. death has arrived and is sitting comfortably at the kitchen table. and the man at that table, and everyone in the audience, and the ones under the floorboards, know it. great. best part of the movie, to me.

i thought HUD was powerful in the scenes between Hud and Alma. a razor blade was between them, seemed like. both of them getting cut all up if they got together. hud too dangerous and alma liking danger too much and knew it and tried to stay away from it. the rest of the story seemed watered down at times, or like a punch in the face. reconsidering, i like that movie a lot.

EXACTLY. And the scene with the David Bowie music when the protag is putting on her warpaint--I mean her make up? Wow.

I don't really get it either. I like some of his early work but now everything he makes just seems so violent. I'd love to see him use his "genius" in other genre's - like a rom-com

Alot of comedies. Didn't like WEDDING CRASHERS or 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN. Guess it takes a lot to make me laugh. Loved DEADPOOL though.

What about True Romance? That film was epic, oh and also very rom-com esque.

Pineapple Express. I loath that movie. And I smoke weed!

Yeah, I guess True Romance is kind of a dark romantic comedy. Maybe a nice family sitcom then....

                              Re: Why the love?

I didn't like the "Hateful Eight" at all nor "Inglorious Bastards." But "True Romance" is awesome! It holds up well.

I did not care for "Wedding Crashers." I also have a rule that I learned about 10 - 12 years ago and hold to it. Ready? I do not watch any film with the following people because I know it is not for me and I'm annoyed they are laughing their way to the bank autopiloting this drivel... Will Farrell, Tiny Fay, Vince Vaughn, Steve Carrell, Seth Rogan (exception is "This Is The End"), Jennifer Aniston & Amy Poeler (spelling might be off). They are okay in small doses and cameos and at one time in their career but now I avoid them. Paul Rudd was on that list until "Ant-Man" and now he's solid or at least in Marvel movies.

I'm watching the Netflix series "Glow" because it got super stellar reviews. I find it just "okay." It has it's moments. While not a Marc Maron fan I find him to be a true breakout star of this show but I guess you can't say that because he's a guy. No one talks enough about his performance.

Keeping up with this stream of consciousness... I liked "Guardians Of The Galaxy 1" for about 40 minutes or so then disliked the whole 3rd act. The Summer it was out people acted like it was brilliant then when I say I disliked the whole ending a couple of people admitted they felt the same way. I did not see the sequel ( it made enough money without my 10 bucks).
