    Great movie.

    Top five.

    Every scene works.

And with Mrs. Robinson as the antagonist?

How does this film work so well?

Great music helps, but figuring it out is kind of like trying to shovel water from one end of a pond to the other.

Think it has to do with one word:

    Plastic

Yeah, it's a good one. You know, they used to talk about doing a sequel (Dustin Hoffman, Buck Henry, etc.). They talk about it on the DVD...what it would be about, who would be in it, what their relationships would be all these years later.

I don't think it ever would've happened. I'm not sure it would've been good, even if it had.

But I guess it's a moot point since Anne Bancroft, the woman who played Mrs. Robinson, died today. Cancer. She was just 73.

one of the reasons is it had style. it had a lot of hitchcock influences in it with the directing, (imho) and the acting was suberb.

not sure what your point is, refried, with giving her age, etc, and the fact that she has died. making a point of it.

        i think we know that.

i know she was a human being. she was a person. she was much, much more than her role as mrs. robinson in one film. but she is being eulogized in this thread.

she was the magic in that film. she made that movie. she made art.

that's about all i know of her.

I wasn't saying the movie's not good anymore because Anne Bancroft died today. I'm saying the sequel they used to talk about from time to time will probably never happen (and shouldn't) now that Anne Bancroft died today.

              Re: The Graduate

Normally, I'd assume they'd never do one. But when you look at some of the stuff Hollywood chooses to remake or revisit with sequels -- and you look at some of the stuff Dustin Hoffman has done in recent years -- it's not entirely impossible.

              But, yeah, it's unlikely.

is that sequel material? how could that perform well at the box office?

Wouldn't be the first sequel made with no material.

Actually, Charles Webb, the guy who wrote the original novel, has written a sequel but won't let it be published until after his death. He's 65 now, so it'll probably be a long time. Anyway, here's a link to the story...

Very interesting. But, you know, the movie sequel wouldn't necessarily be like the novel sequel. Before the Psycho II movie came out, Robert Bloch wrote a Psycho II novel that was completely unrelated to the flick.

Yeah. I don't think America is waiting for the definite film on home schooling. Though to be honest, it might be interesting to see a movie where a couple of people go on the run and seek "refuge by running nudist camps."
