Great new western in the old, slow moving style aired tonight on the AMC Channel in a two part back-to-back screening. Starring Robert Duval and Thomas Hayden Church the story reminded me bit like OPEN RANGE (Costner and Duval) and Eastwood's UNFORGIVEN.
The open range scenes shot in Calgary were spectacular, the long, line of herded mustang horses a sight to see, and the decent showdown gunfight at the end (although, not as spectacular nor as loud as in OPEN RANGE) made the move very enjoyable for most western fans.
All in all its worth it to take the ride if not just to watch the master Duvall replay his old coot of a cowboy as in Lonesome Dove and Open Range. AMC should be replaying BROKEN TRAIL again over the next few weeks.
