  • Why Some Make It and Others Do Not

Why did Six Feet Under and 24 succeed, while Lost, with its huge audience, is in the process of failing?

Why does Deadwood outdo its competition in everything?

    Could it be the writing?
Writers write to be read, right?

I loved Deadwood, but what was its competition, and how did it outdo the competition when it only lasted three seasons and was meant to last five? You use Lost as an example of a show that's not "making it" -- but if it has just one more season after this one -- and there's no indication it won't -- it's outdone Deadwood.

Deadwood got tons of critical acclaim, and the writing was definitely a big factor in that. But in terms of "making it" or not making it, it ended years before it was supposed to.

I should have been more precise.

I'm speaking of the quality of each show, such that they come up in our minds as great writing. The comparisons are interesting. Totally different markets, I agree. What is similar are the shows' respective successes with each marketplace while depending upon the basics of good writing.

Don't have the slightest idea why I brought this up...
