  • BSkyB lives another day without Rupert Murdoch

...now that his slimy tendrils have rescinded from the grasp around the TV network because of the massive criminal investigation engulfing Murdoch's empire like this decade's Watergate.

Reporting from London- Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. abruptly withdrew its bid to take over Britain's biggest satellite broadcaster Wednesday, bowing to intense pressure from lawmakers and a general public outraged over a spiraling phone-hacking scandal involving newspapers owned by the Australian-born tycoon.

"We believe that the proposed acquisition of BSkyB by News Corporation would benefit both companies, but it has become clear that it is too difficult to progress in this climate," Chase Carey, the deputy chairman of News Corp., said in a terse statement released here Wednesday afternoon.

The decision was a humiliating turnaround for Murdoch and for News Corp., which has been seeking government approval for months to take control of BSkyB. Owning the broadcast company would have represented a major expansion of Murdoch's already-large media empire in Britain, which includes newspapers such as the Times of London and the Sun.

An interesting read on how, a couple of months ago, HUGH GRANT ran a personal undercover sting that blew this whole scandal wide open:

Milly Dowler was the name that was used to front the crusade against News International (News Corp) in the UK. The public were sickened at how voice mail messages on her phone were deleted, making the victim's family believe the missing girl was still alive.

A similar investigation into the 9/11 victims may be underway.

Yeah, but the public didn't really care about the scandal when it was just UK's royal family, politicians, and celebrities being hacked and having their privacy being violated in the worst way possible...it was only until it came out they did this to a 13 year old murdered girl that this became such a big story.

Hugh Grant gave an interview to the Today Show yesterday where he questioned Murdoch's monopolies in the UK-

Would imagine in a year or so, this episode will be fodder for an HBO series. Theme song: Tie me kangaroo down sport.
