This show is a guilty pleasure. Any thoughts on the premiere?

One of the last things Bill said in the season 4 finale was "We are not f*cking puppy dogs!" but what does he do the second Sookie's upset?

I love Eric's response. That's why Eric is the hot one.

That flashback to Sookie & Tara's childhood was so horrible. But that's True Blood for you. They always sneak in a little big of horrible writing to keep you from thinking it's too good.

"True Blood" has always been a guilty pleasure of mine...but man, these first few episodes have been awful. There's been an egregious amount of cringeworthy lines, blatant exposition dumps, and tepid plotting.

Also, bringing Tara back (arguably one of the most annoying characters on recent TV) was just plain stupid.

I have to admit, I haven't been blown away either. Seems like they're all over the place plot wise, and stick in things randomly. Like Jason and the "teacher". I cringed over that one. Lafayette suddenly pouring bleach into the soup. Christopher Meloni is chewing it up, though. Pam's backstory is interesting, but is it really germaine to what's going on the in the present day? Feels like filler to me, when there's already so much going on. To me, the heart of the show was always Sookie and Bill (I hated her hooking up with Eric). And I totally agree--I thought we had gotten rid of Tara for good. Her getting in the tanning booth, I applauded.

The problem is that at some point they forgot that vampires are supposed to be scary.

Yeah the Jason/teacher thing was icky. I got really uncomfortable with that whole sequence. It was wrong for several reasons.

And the Pam/Erick backstory is touching on a pet peeve with this show. Remember last season when Tara was suddenly a lesbian? Now Pam used to be straight? So... sexual orientation is just sort of casually exchanged in this universe, I guess. Next season Lafeyette's going to start banging chicks.

Agreed about Christopher Meloni, though. He was great.

There are so many unresolved plot lines. Jason being clawed and raped by the panther women. The "fairy" element (which they touched upon with Jessica running in the field after the "smell good" guy.) Lame. Eric suddenly having a "sister" along with this new vampire group. I dunno. It seems like EVERYONE in town has a story in this crowded universe.

I used to love this show, but for me it jumped the shark at the end of S03 when they didn't kill Russell Edgington for no reason whatsoever.

If a 3,000-year old vampire is determined to kill you, why would you dump him in some cement instead? That made no sense.

I've HAD it with this show. It's really almost becoming unwatchable. Last night's eppy was a prime exampe of the incoherent mess this show has become.

However, I'd love to smoke the same thing the screenwriters do

Haha, yep, exactly the same Smoke is what I meant As to the screenwriters, all the seasons contain the irony that is totally necessary for this type of material!
