I wouldn't consider the "Yield" a technicality - it's a part of the game.
It doesn't handicap dominant teams because the advantage goes to the team who gets there first - which should be the dominant team.
I like the feature too. It not only adds a new dynamic to the game, but it offers a form of retaliation that could make the competition "personal". Its use doesn't need to be personally motivated (like Chip and Kim using it as a competitive edge against a normally dominant team), but it COULD be. So the fact that it's a part of the game could make others think twice before casually screwing somebody over.
Anyway, I think it's a good addition. It'll be very interesting to see if it's available for the finale and, if so, how it's used.
