I don't know which draft I read but it wasn't locked down.
I enjoyed reading the script for a number of reasons:
Structure with its theme/thesis is solidly profound. It all makes sense by the end of the third act. I was actually caught out by the ending, I admit, they got me good and proper. Not as predictable as I thought it was going to be.
The love story was heading for the typical Red Cross worker falls in love with CIA man, but I like the fact that it headed in a different direction -- it left me with my jaw on the floor by the end. I didn't see it coming. Thinking about it now, I really liked this aspect of the picture.
I think they've nailed the casting of Hoffman; Russell Crowe is perfect for this role.
The indictment of America's involvement on terror and its questionable tactics is the one of the more potent aspects of the film. I think it delivers the hyprocrisy of it all; it has balls.
Overall, I think the script lived up to its title.
I wonder what the novel is like?
