It's kinda of funny to find out that Frank Darabont, now a heavy hitter, started out with Nightmare on Elm Street 3. That's actually not a bad first gig.

I just found out yesterday from the documentary "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy" that Peter Jackson wrote a script called "Nightmare on Elm Street 6: The Dream Lover" and the concept was that Freddy had become so weak in the dream world that teens would take sleeping pills and made a game out of going into the dream world to beat up Freddy. Some how Freddy gets lucky enough to kill one kid which gives Freddy enough power to take a boy's father hostage in the dream world, where the boy must go there one last time to save his dad.
This was of course rejected for Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare.

Would love to see that Jackson take some day.

Chuck and Frank have also co-wrote the 1988 version of "The Blob". Great remake starring a pre-"Entourage" Kevin Dillion and a pre-"Saw" Shawnee Smith.

And before that he worked props/set dresser on a bunch of films (I think Ken Russell's CRIMES OF PASSION). He gave me copies of some of his assignments that never happened - COMMANDO 2!

The thing about almost anyone who is a heavy hitter now is that they did not start as a heavy hitter. They started like anybody here. Lots of writers have stuff they probably don't put on their resumes - do you think Steve Zaillian lists his Chuck Norris credit?

The script was a good ride. The film, not so much.
