THE ROAD Book/Script Comparison

This is another one that's buried in my stack, but I have a more specific question about this:

Did anyone read both the script and the book? Was it faithful/a departure?

I've not read either but I was just curious if anyone had a reaction, since the book exploded in popularity after being in Oprah's Book Club or whatever. I've been hearing that it's somewhat akin (in tone and journey) to THE LONG WALK but, again, wanted to collect a few opinions.

I haven't read the book but I loved the script. It's a strange read as a lot of it is just things that come and go and it's mostly them walking and looking through houses, it has a great father/son dynamic and some really affective and emotional parts. Though the ending seemed a little far fetched.

I've only read the script which was OK but the writing was horrid. The dialogue was repetitive. I kept wanting it to lead somewhere, anywhere, but it literally is just the man and his son walking to the beach for no reason except they think it will be somehow better there. They check houses and hide from the crazies every now and then, but that's it. The ending left a lot to be desired.
