Re: Favorite Writer since 2000?
Meh... I don't know if I can come up with just one writer, so I'll list some scripts that I really dug:
THE DOGS OF BABEL (Jamie Linden)
A KILLING ON CARNIVAL ROW (Travis Beacham)
THE BASEMENT aka AN AMERICAN CRIME (Tommy O' Haver & Irene Turner)
MOEBIUS (Neil Cohen)
RECOUNT (Danny Strong)
RED (Stephen Susco)
ROUNDTABLE (Brian K. Vaughan)
THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT (Tim Talbott)
SYNECDOCHE, NY (Charlie Kaufman)
THE LOVELY BONES (Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson)"Tone is now engaged in a furious Google search for Leighton Meester's keester." -- A friend of mine

Re: Favorite Writer since 2000?
Beattie, Gilroy ... but I enjoy most scripts I read, partly because it's so difficult to write well.
Therefore for me, it's less about favourite, and more about "what are you trying to do here - ah, that's interesting, visual, clever, I like that approach ... "
Diversity in screenplays is key for me, rather than "favourites" !Forthcoming: The Annual, "I JUST GOT DUMPED" Valentine's Short Screenplay Writing Competition. Keep an eye on Writing Exercises.
