Adam, player, sleeps with an underage chick who blackmails him into posing as her boyfriend in order to make her ex jealous.
This script was okay I guess. I didn't enjoy the set-up. It felt a little forced. It was like, "How do you write a comedy about a guy who dates an underage girl and still make the audience have sympathy for him?" So of course they made her blackmail him. I just wasn't onboard with that. I think part of the humor and the conflict comes from your character knowing that what he's doing is wrong (see Lester Burnham in American Beauty - albeit a darker take). If he has conflicted emotions about what he's doing, there's a lot more comedy there - not to mention the whole story becomes more complex. Being forced along for the ride takes a lot of the fun out of it. I can understand why they did it though (I don't think studio people would accept that storyline in a pure comedy) but I wish they hadn't. Too safe. -- The underage jokes are fairly familiar if you've watched any movies in the last 20 years. And midway through I was about to call it quits. But the script rebounds in a big way, and once we just focus on the relationship between the two, it actually turns into a sweet little love story. So I'd recommend this, but just barely.
