LEGENDARY DIRECTOR/SCREENWRITER JOHN MILIUS: TODAY'S SCRIPTS ARE "GARBAGE"

    By Lee Pfeiffer

Director/screenwriter John Milius' work is steeped in Hollywood legend. He wrote some of the most memorable lines for Dirty Harry, came up with the classic dialogue for Apocalypse Now (including "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning...") and literally improvised Robert Shaw's superb monologue about the sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis in Jaws while talking on the phone. (Though he never received screen credit). Milius has been laying low in recent years, perhaps because his outspoken and unapologetic conservative views have not made him the flavor of the day in a film industry dominated by liberals. Now he's back in the spotlight, contributing to a documentary about his main passion - surfing. He's also preparing a major film about Genghis Khan. Along the way, Milius weighs in on the state of the political situation in America. He unloads on fellow conservative Rush Limbaugh for defending Wall Street bankers and says the iconic radio show host should be drawn and quartered. (Can they find two horses that big?) He also says today's movie scripts are by-and-large "garbage" written by shameless writers.
