Craig, Derek and the other pros are only moderators of the Advanced Script Pages forum because that forum was their idea.

The rest of us - those you listed and we "others" (Me, Bill, ComicBent, Sarah, and the Keen Guy) - were asked by Will, who runs this place. We started as members first.

Re: how did these 6 people become done deal moderators?

re: moderators, I commend them for their efforts. They do this time-consuming job while we amateurs go all-out to try to "catch up" to their professional writing level.

I volunteered on a political forum one time, just to help ban spammers and pornos. I had to give up after two weeks. Yes, it was a simple public forum without membership controls, but still! It took 1-2 hours per day!

If anybody ever asked me again to do it, I'd run for the hills.

Better them and I, anyway, because I'd be cracking the whip a lot more than they do!

      So thanks to these people.

They were chosen for their good looks.

It's rather cruel for us uglies. I'd be so outraged if I didn't get lost in nic.h and TheKeenGuy's eyes.

I guess I was lucky when I met Will. He showed pity on me and still allowed me to be a mod. Now that I have left the mod corp, I doubt he would be so generous considering the the present mods are so good looking (or so it seems ).

Full disclosure: Yes, we are all gods and goddesses.

            Heh.

In reality, we do not have to spend as much time at this as moderators might on some other kinds of boards. For the most part, people here cooperate pretty well, and our policing is fairly easy.

As for how we became moderators ... I have been doing this for a long time, but I was not one of the originals. I started on the board around ten years ago (or maybe eleven, I forget). I answered a lot of questions about style, format, and writing in general for a couple of years ... and Will, Charli, and Bill were kind enough to ask me if I wanted to be a moderator, and I agreed.

Through thick and thin, I have never regretted that decision. I have learned a heck of a lot here from studying questions and issues that people have raised.

And now you may resume your arguments.

The biggest hurdles are the five hundred dollar fee and the urine sample.

When Will asks you to drop your pants, you know you're in.

Seriously? I had to pay fifteen hundred down just to be put on a consider list and twice a week I have to leave a feces sample in a paper bag on a porch in Washington DC. 1600 Pennsylvania or thereabouts. I usually go at night so I can't always tell.

I would never be a mod after hearing that the urine test was a *taste* test.

I thought the initial question was meant as an insult.

apparently learned physicians of medieval times tasted urine in order to determine if sugar was present in the body humors. wild tidbit, eh? so gross!

Even until fairly recently smelling the urine was a standard test for diabetes .. if it smelt sugary then you are likely to have problems.

i can't even imagine how doctors would differentiate a sugar smell in urine. it must take quite a nose for scents... my headspace has been so filled lately with period piece research, but the upside is i've learned a deep appreciation for how far we've come in terms of medical science.

(oops on the derailment - back to thread)
