  • Max Landis is Killing It.

The kid's only 26, and he already has three sales under his belt.
    From today's trades...
"Director Shawn Levy is taking on a new adaptation of Frankenstein scripted by Max Landis (son of John Landis)."
Now of course all you bitter S.O.B.'s are gonna scream "nepotism!". But let's face it, Chronicle, despite it's flaws, was very original. And Good Time Gang is supposedly great fun too.
"People spend so much time focusing on rescuing the princess, they forget how much fun it is to fight the dragon."

    That's awesome!

Nepotism, no. Probably the upbringing: All film, all the time, in his household.

Being in Canada, one of my favorite stories is of Elwy Yost (movie host on T.V.) and his son, Graham, whose interest in film his dad obviously cultivated from an early age.

When Graham penned "Speed", he was about 33.

Here's a quote I dug up on IMDB just now:

He once arrived at school with a note from his father Elwy Yost explaining that "Graham is late for school because I had him stay up late to watch Citizen Kane (1941)."
Guess his dad thought Citizen Kane was necessary viewing.

Just thought that was interesting, since on another current thread "Gotta apologize ... that I missed these movies" someone talked about how they were unable to stay awake for that classic!

Nepotism. Probably not with the actual buys and I'm sure he's a great writer but he's definitely got the contacts and the last name that keeps producers from hitting the delete button in their inbox.

Chronicle was really rough around the edges, but it still absolutely hooked me. The kid can write. His success has nothing to do with nepotism.

In the Script magazine article he said that he has written 59 scripts. Hard worker I must say.

I haven't read Chronicle, but it doesn't sound "very original" from its logline. It sounds "very similar" to several things. For example, J. Michael Straczynski's Rising Stars. And, to varying degrees, Greatest American Hero, Meteor Man, No Ordinary Family, Black Snyder's Nuclear Family, I-Man.

And Spider-Man. It sounds like the concept is "What if three kids got bit by a radio-active spider, instead of one?"

+1. it's a good article. isn't the average somewhere around 2-3 a year for a working writer...? 59 scripts by 26 is impressive.

Wow, 56 scripts. Looks like he got his 10,000 hours done.

It does look kinda interesting. I dunno if it'll be a problem but I don't see any characters that are remotely likeable.

There's nothing in that trailer that looks "very similar"
