Does newmarket use the original script for the shooting scripts they publish?

    Thanks!

Usually they use the shooting script - which is often very different than the version that sold. I don't know if this is the case with JUNO.

Thanks. Is it a waste to read shooting scripts? Almost everything at AFSO is a shooting script.

        To quote Jeff:

There's no difference - except scene numbers - between a shooting script and a spec script.

        <snip>

Shooting scripts don't have "all the camera directions."

A shooting script isn't a spec script where someone went through and called out all the shots.

Spec scripts and shooting scripts are written the same way.

Yes, but I'd say one thing - it might be helpful in this case to get the spec that got all of the attention, since we're talking about scripts that broke writers.

            but since you said this:

then all he needs to do is ignore the scene numbers. how hard is that?!

In the quoted thread, I was answering someone who thought shooting scripts were entirely differently formatted, with every shot called out, etc.

Here, I'm saying that the final draft of a shooting script will invariably have some changes from the spec that got purchased - the result of rewrites during the development process. If you're looking for a script that broke someone, it might be more helpful to see that first script that got all the attention.

The answer to the original question is, Read both, and compare.

I also think the version that sold (and was hot) is a better example than the version they shot. One of the things that often happens in the development process is that rough edges get sanded down - and (in my experience) some of those rough edges are what sold the script.

Not that this happened with JUNO that I know of, but development can homogenize a screenplay sometimes.

Re: Juno - Newmarket shooting script

IIRC, reading the script-- I think it was the one that ended up on the Blacklist-- I was struck by how many scenes were deleted. Something like 10-12. So I suspect the original spec was probably longer & meandered a bit, and was later tightened up in the development process.

But I could be remembering it wrong.
