Is it just me, or does anyone else think the guy is a train-wreck?

He obviously doesn't believe in subtext since everything on everybody's mind comes bubbling up out of the froth in their brain like a thick gooey sludge of word-paste in his dialogue. Some of it is witty, yes. But it's about as elegant as an hydraulic sledgehammer.

    Just my opinion.

The Newsroom is my current hate-watch. I can't get through an episode without shouting "Ew" at the screen at least once.

      Re: Sorkin

Sorkin writes the dialogue that we all want to say. It's the stuff we wish we would have said after a conversation is over. Those lines that we all wish we had thought of at just that time. It's the stuff we practice in our head before we meet someone.

Is it real? No -- but it sure as hell is mesmerizing and more than that, it's fun.

I'd love to live in a world where everyone speaks "Sorkinish." Failing that I'd like to have his babies.

      So no -- I don't think he's a train wreck.
If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there are men on base.

In general, I'd agree with you. I adore the Social Network. Could watch it on repeat.

But have you watch the Newsroom? He concocts situations just so his personal politics can be the white knight that comes and saves the day. For the most part, I consider myself a very liberal guy, but the Newsroom makes me hate liberal politics. The women on the show are for the most parts either trainwrecks or written exactly like the men. He seems to be doing a lame impression of Silicon Valley with the BJ Novack character. I just really want this show to end so he can go back to writing something else. Anything else.

I have a love/hate relationship with Sorkin. Love his movies, hate his TV shows, even the West Wing. Not sure why that is.
