Academy Award-nominee Hossein Amini is set to write a new draft for the upcoming MOBY DICK (UNIVERSAL) adaptation.

The scribe, who most recently penned the critically acclaimed “Drive”, is the fourth writer to work on a draft for the film, which will be a update of Herman Melville’s classic novel. Before Amini, Evan Spiliotopoulos was the most recent writer for the pic, which will be directed by “Wanted” helmer Timur Bekmambetov under the Bazelevs and Bluegrass Films banners. The film’s storyline is being kept under wraps but it is said it will showcase a more charismatic Captain Ahab that is not as hell-bent on revenge and will also bring focus upon the other ships the mighty whale had wrecked.

With Bekmambetov’s fast paced, stylized directing and Amini’s crisp writing, “Moby Dick” could end up looking pleasantly unique and contemporary when compared to the classic book the world has come to know and love.

Amini is also working on the scripts for the upcoming thriller, “A Most Wanted Man” as well as the period piece “47 Ronin”. He is an uncredited writer for the soon to be released “Snow White And The Huntsman”, which is acting as the ying to “Mirror, Mirror”‘s yang in terms of fairy tale re-imaginings. He received an Oscar nod for best adapted screenplay for his script “The Wings Of The Dove”, based on the novel of the same name by Henry James.

Bekmambetov will produce along with Scott Stuber, Jim Lemley, Cormac Wibberley and Marianne Sellek Wibberley.

Amini is repped by WME and Curtis Brown Group.
